Production

The actual process of thermoforming is done in three broad categories: in-line forming, shuttle forming, and rotary forming. Each of those approaches, with accompanying diagrams, is discussed in the Tech Academy's Forming Techniques section. Once parts are formed, it is the all-important trim processes that release the finished part from the formed plastic, and these are covered at length in our Trimming section.

There are two topics that are included in the Production section:

The formula for producing quality thermoformed parts is pretty simple. Start with a good design, select the appropriate material, choose the proper tooling strategy, employ the most appropriate forming technique, and select the trim method that will consistently and efficiently give you the finished part you want.
